Understanding Body Condition Score
BCS 1-3: Underweight
Ribs, spine, and hip bones clearly visible. Little to no fat cover. Obvious waist and abdominal tuck. May indicate malnutrition or illness.
BCS 4-5: Ideal
Ribs easily felt but not prominently visible. Noticeable waist when viewed from above. Slight abdominal tuck. This is the healthiest condition.
BCS 6-7: Overweight
Ribs hard to feel under fat layer. Waist barely visible or absent. Rounded abdomen. Increased risk for joint issues and diabetes.
