Can Cats Eat Chocolate?

Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both toxic to cats.

Details

Cats are even more sensitive to theobromine than dogs. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are most dangerous. Cats are less likely to eat chocolate than dogs, but even small amounts can cause serious symptoms. White chocolate has minimal theobromine but is still unhealthy.

Symptoms to Watch For

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Rapid breathing
  • Muscle tremors
  • Seizures
  • Heart arrhythmia

  • Cat grass
  • Commercial cat treats
  • Small piece of cooked chicken
