Can Dogs Eat Garlic?

Garlic is toxic to dogs and damages red blood cells.

Details

Garlic belongs to the Allium family (along with onions, leeks, and chives) and is toxic to dogs. It is approximately 5 times more potent than onions. Garlic damages red blood cells leading to hemolytic anemia. All forms are dangerous: raw, cooked, powdered, or in supplements. Some holistic practitioners claim small amounts are beneficial for flea prevention, but veterinary science does not support this and considers it unsafe.
