⚠️
Use Caution

Milk should be given to dogs with caution.

Can Dogs Eat Milk?

Many dogs are lactose intolerant — milk can cause digestive upset.

Details

While not toxic, most adult dogs lack sufficient lactase enzyme to properly digest milk. This can lead to uncomfortable digestive symptoms. Puppies naturally produce more lactase but lose this ability as they mature. If you want to give dairy, opt for lactose-free options or fermented dairy like plain yogurt. Never give more than a few tablespoons at a time.

  • Diarrhea
  • Gas
  • Bloating
  • Stomach pain

Safe Alternatives

  • Goat milk (easier to digest)
